I'm in the process of removing the all rubber run on my '56 and replacing with metal. I had fuel delivery problems on the road to KC and back and I suspect the old hose is collapsing. The problem doesn't surface going to local shows and stuff but get her out on the highway for a few hours and it starts to close up.
