The number/code that Bill suggests, is your easiest way to determine 56 or later car/truck. If you have-to or want-to tear into the engine, if it has hydraulic lifters, they were only used on car engines. However, 1958 and later truck engines could have been after-market-fitted with hydraulic lifters.
