A BIG C-clamp and an assortment of deep sockets will handle a bunch of pushing-pulling chores as long as everything stays in a straight line. Just don't let it get out of line or pieces start flying in all directions.

I used to install walking-beam bushings in Hendrickson suspension systems where the diameter of the sleeve around the center bushing was approximately 6". It was all a 50-ton hydraulic press wanted to handle to get one of them moving, and progress was a series of 1/4" jumps over an 8" total length. Installing two walking beam bushings occupied most of an 8-hour shift AFTER the beam was removed from the rear axle assembly!
