part of the fuel pump? never seen a fuel pump that had one built in, AFAIK the only accessory filter ever offered from the dealer or factory was right at the carb inlet, where it could be easily seen and checked - maybe someone put the factory [glass bowl] filter down at your pump instead?
some folks like to put one at the tank outlet, but that's not really where it's needed as the fuel pump can pass pretty large pieces without problem, it's the carb that needs protection, and if you need 2 filters it's time to fix the tank or get a locking gas cap to keep the kids out
