The simplest kill switch is just a toggle switch hidden under the dash somewhere that shorts out the distributor primary circuit. On a HEI system, the TACH terminal gets connected to ground with the remote switch and prevents the coil from firing. A more sophisticated system might involve a timer that lets the engine run a few seconds, then shuts down the ignition system. With some basic electronic knowledge and a couple of relays, a system can be designed to blow the horn and flash the headlights after the engine stops until the battery runs down or a cable gets disconnected.
