216 are interchangeable and a direct bolt in....
228 has an external 1/4 oil line in the front of the engine.... none on the 216....
To the best of my knowledge the valve covers are not interchangeable between these two engines..... you may have a 216..... was it original..?? was GMC using 216 due to a shortage...who knows..?
Any pictures available...? where are you located in Ontario??? as I have a spare 228 parts engine..... which was in a Chev and I replaced with a 261.....
