I'm sure you've looked thoroughly, as you took out the seat, but in my junkyard wanderings I've found a couple of slider handles on the floor. My guess is that when the handle had pulled off, the owner had thrown it on the floor with intentions of putting it back on later. Just something to keep in mind for those searching.
