As I recall, the purple wires are for turn signals (non-standard wiring). It is possible to wire it for the single tail lamp - maybe someone near their one-tail/stop-lamp Classic Parts harness installation will post a reply.
Are the purple wires exactly the same (or does one have a ridge or stripe on it)?
Did you try calling Classic Parts Technical Support?
