I have an oil leak/drip coming from the rear of the engine. I have checked the rocker cover, the pan gasket forward of the rear main,and pulled the flywheel cover to take a look. There appears to be oil on the bearing cap but not the engine side of the flywheel. I have two suspicions:
1. the rear main is leaking and the oil follows the Trans shaft to the clutch side of the flywheel and collects in the flywheel cover.
2. the pan gasket leaks and drips into the flywheel cover
This block was rebuilt about a year and a half ago by a good shop and I don't know if they used a neoprene or the old style seal. Are they interchangeable?
I am not looking forward to a rear seal job, so if anybody has any thoughts, they would be welcomed.
