The quick answer is "yes" you can put it together without the wood. This site is a great source for info, if you use the tech help section it will guide you to where you need to go. The biggest hassle I had was the demo part, just getting the pieces apart so you can strip down and replace all those old rusty nuts and bolts was a hassle.
