Yes, the bed can be assembled without the wood in place, just use a few peices of 1" thick board under the side angle strips to support the bed and hold in the proper hight. Mar-K would be the best place to check for a diagram on how the bed goes together. Also, the factory assembly manual is available in reprint, it has an extensive section on bed assembly.
