Also in reply to your question about the oil pressure. It may or may not drop as this happened. If the debris in the crank was thick enough it would cause a false higher pressure reading than it should. The bearing would go dry, while the oil is going somewhere else.
I have seen cranks get ruined because the owner never saw the oil pressure drop until the engine either locked up or tossed the rod.
