Hi guys, Ive done a few searches "bottom end bearings" "engine ID".
But it may be that my English English is getting in the way of the search engines American English ;-).
My 1952 3100 has a mid rev range, part load, worse when warm, knock.
I have used the FAQ procedure to redo the tappets twice now and at idle the engine is almost silent. So I think that perhaps I need new Big End bearings/shells (that is those white metal bearings that go between the bottom of the conrod and the crankshaft.
I was told when I bought the truck from San Fran that the engine was a "later 235"
SO I have a couple of questions, having never replaced the bottom end shells on an engine before.
How do I make sure I get the right shells? I assume this means ID-ing the engine. Can anyone here help with that?
I can get the serial numbers from the engine or post pictures if that helps?
Where to source shells from? I have used LMC truck in the US and a company over here (UK) before for parts, but nothing engine related.
Looking through the LMC catalogue I can see the appropriate items ie rod bearing.
However they appear hellishly expensive and therefore I wouldnt want to get the wrong ones!
