Hi Bruce:

You may have inadvertently answered my question if your '40 has a wire core. My '41 does not have any type of core. The two hinge halves seem to be designed to work without any type of core or pin, each side is continuous for its entire length. By removing the front hold down you can slid one half of the hood forward (slipping one half of the hinge through the other) and completely off of the truck while the other hood and hinge half remains in place on the truck.

The hinges on the side panels are the piano hinge type that has a wire core.

Hopefully a few more guys will chime in and help clear this up.
