Hey Judge, Im the guy that had quesions about the 400 series trucks. My truck is also a CC404, It's a 1945,I have yet to hear about another. So far yours is the only other 404 that I've heard about
My serial # is CC4047189 The tag on the drivers side reads 1574-13557
My truck has a 248, it also has a governor under the carb. It has a vacuum operated 2 spd rear end, the original color was Brewster Green with Black fenders & running boards, with Apple green wheels.
I bought mine from the son of the original owner. It is a Civilian truck. I also have the original title from 1945.
I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on these trucks, however what I have found is a copy of the sales brochure for trucks released to civilians for 1945, it shows the 400 series trucks, which is the CC402, CC403 & CC404, all with a 248 engine.
They show the 270 listed for a 450 series truck. Where yours came with a 270, it very well could have been a Military truck.
The 270 was the engine in all the military trucks. I also have a maintenance manual for our trucks. it covers the 300, 400, & 450 series trucks. ( & Katrina if your'e reading this, it covers your truck as well.) Both of these books are on E Bay now. There is lots of detailed information in the maintenance manual. The # on the upper right hand corner of the cover is X-4523. Id like to see some pics if you have any.
I have pics of mine below. I've been wondering how rare these trucks really are, they're probably not worth a whole lot, but it makes it worth while knowing there arnt a lot of these left.
