Here's an old trick I remember my Grandpa using on a tractor that would run but not idle well. He'd get it revved up, kill the ignition and pull the choke closed. Sometimes it would take 2-3 attempts, but it often worked. I surmise that the high vacuum created clears passages inside the carb.
