Had the old Chevy out today, drove it 100 miles. It was a lot of fun. It drives nice once you get used to the high seas feeling and the extremely poor handling. No seriously, It was a great day.
One problem I did encounter however was getting back on the highway this afternoon. The on ramp is too short for a corvette, and these crazy NY drives do like 85MPH. I think I over revved it coming out of first. I jumped on it like i do the muscle cars, and I know better but at the same time I didn't want to get slammed. Car revved up and then just when I thought it had a few 100 more RPM's.... I found out i was wrong, as the motor spuddered and feel on its face. I shifted into second. Sounds like everything is OK. I don't have a tach but I am sure going to add one. What is the top RPM for this 216? For the time being how can i generally tell when I have to shift. Again, when I am driving it I usually baby it, but this was extenuating circumstances.
