For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 23 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 23 | OK, So I finally got the truck and the VIN checks out as a 66 Chevrolet K10. It does indeed, have a V6 engine with a one barrell carb that looks an aweful lot like pics I've seen of the 305 V6. It even has those goofy plaid valve covers. The plate on the interior on the driver's side lists 6 available engines with HP ratings for each. It lists the 194, 230, 250, 292, 283 and 327. It is impossible for me to tell if the engine is a transplant from a GMC truck. If it is, it is obvious that the engine has been in the truck for some time. It has the double hydraulic master cylinder that appears to control both the brakes and the clutch. Since the slave cylinder is bad, it appears all the fliud has gone AWOL and it has neither brakes or an operating clutch. To ad insult to injury, both of the spring perches on the axle have the welds broken and the rear axle has spun in the U bolts and seems to have trashed the yoke seal on the diff. My plan is to get the perches re-welded first so I can safely tow it to my garage. The truck is sitting at a local welding shop awaiting monday when I can talk to them. Is my plan sound. Am I on the right track on the priority of things? Any help would be appreciated because I kind of need it to be a daily driver before the snow flies. I have about three good months to work on it. Suggestions please? | | | |
