Denny, I used the Omni line which is all the local PPG dealer offered. The paint dealer told me I could use the base coat by itself as you suggested but said all the UV protection was in the clear coat. They did say I could add flattener (chalk dust?)to the clear but I would have to mix that in myself. After trying the straight clear on a few small parts I decided to use it. I actually prefer the gloss look. The summer sun is brutal here and I thought the UV protection would be important.
