I think that $300 - $400 is VERY reasonable for the job involved. Bear in mind that $60 - $75 per hour seems to be a going rate for mechanical work on autos, trucks, motorcycles, etc.
I had maybe 20 hours of my time involved, but a lot of that time was spent cleaning parts, reading manuals, searching for or making tools and so forth.
