If you have enough wheel base that you need to use a 2 piece drive shaft, you can use a fixed shaft between the transmission and the center bearing. You will need a slip joint in the rear drive shaft because it is the rear end that moves. If you can get away with one shaft, the slip joint has to be right behind the transmission. The distance between the companion flange on the transmission and the companion flange is the determining factor as to whether you can use a single shaft.
