One of these books is a miss print,I have several other non GM manuals stating 40-50 on the rod bolts for a 1942 engine,and all the years beyond that including the 235-261 engines. GM parts manual lists the same part number for the rod bolt, all 6 cylinder engines 38-53.60 ft lbs of torque on a 3/8 bolt is extremely high.ARP,who manufactures rod bolts far superior to any original GM bolt,recomends a maximum torque of 50 ft lbs on a 3/8 fine thread bolt.
