Measure the hole in the bellhousing and measure the diameter of the bearing retainer. If the bearing retainer is larger than the hole that you are trying to fit it in, it will not work. Many times parts get interchanged incorrectly even by reputable shops.
You obviously have not solved the problem, I was just offering a suggestion.
