The input shaft should stick out 6 5/8 of an inch. It should be 10 spline on 1 1/8 diameter. The very tip of the transmission should be 0.590 inch, and the bearing retainer itself should be 4.686 inches in diameter.
Is this a 3 or 4 speed transmission? If it is a 4 speed, is it a top loading/shifting transmission, or sideshifting transmission?
The reason I ask these questions is there are two 4 speeds that look a lot alike, the sm420 and the sm465. The sm465 has a larger bearing retainer as discussed. It would measure 5.125 inches in diameter.
It's a 3 Speed. Just as an update. I like doing things with local businesses. So the guy who rebuilt is on vacation (he's retired?, and I thought vacations were practice retirements), he's coming to my house on Thursday to look at everything and make an assessment.
