Which 4 speed? There were several n the early '80s, and they did use different size retainers. If it's the SM465, it will not be large enough, but I beleive the MY6 is the same as the early 4 speed and 3 speeds. If you are using one with the large retainer, a machine shop can enlarge the bore for you so that you can keep the existing bellhousing.
