The new mains for my 216 were pinching the crankshaft near on the sides near were the two halves fit together, despite plastigauge placed on top indicating .003 clearance. However, if one did try using plastigauge on the sides, it would probably smear due to the sliding action of the bearing shell against the crank at that location when tightening.
