Speedo gear can go either way.
The front bearing should not be on that hard. You should be able to tap it off with a punch.
For the rear bearing snap ring I made a tool to spread this ring by grinding a 3/4" wide piece of metal at an angle at the end so as you push it through the two ends of the ring it spreads it.
