Trying to replace the front main and rear bearing on a tranny that has the enclosed driveshaft. I'm guessing it's probably a 1953 tranny because it has the 14 needle and the 24 needle bearings.
The problem is when I removed the mainshaft the 2nd gear thrust washer, which is between the gear and the rear bearing, falls off and it has two different sides. Does the side with the 3 slots face the 2nd gear or the rear bearing?
The speedometer gear falls off too. Although both sides look the same, is there a front side or doesn't it matter?
Also, is there anyway to press the shaft out of the front main bearing without an arbor press?
I removed the left handed lock nut/ oil slinger.
The new bearing has to be pressed on. Any ideas or should I take the shaft and the new bearing to a shop to have it done?
The rear bearing was alot of fun removing without the proper tool to expand the ring. Is there any trick to expand the ring without the proper tool. I'm already having nightmares just thinking about installing the new rear bearing.
