Another very cheap alternative to get a cable linkage is to go the wrecking yards and look at just about any of the 60-80's Datsun/Nissan pickups. The throttle pedal is held to the firewall with one or two bolts, and the cable attaches to the firewall right above it, and the other ned of the cable bracket is on the carb mounting bolt, and will require some slight modification to attach to the V-8, but should work pretty well, and will look clean for a very inexpensive cast.
