I like to drill the stud holes out and tap them to accept a 5/8" Heli-Coil, then install a threaded plug with LocTite to fill the enlarged hole. Then I drill and tap the plugs to accept the carburetor mounting studs on a closer center-to-center spacing. If I want to go back to the wider spacing, it's a simple matter to break the LocTite loose with heat, pull the offset-hole bushing out, and replace it with one that's threaded on center. Best of both worlds!
