Dave, You have the orig. window crank assembly. If it works well you are lucky. You can check the tech tips for rebuild information.
If I remember correctly you have a 3spd trans. It is small and easy to remove. It's bolted in as you describe. To remove it you can pull the top bolts and replace with some that are about 4" long. Cut the heads off and put a screwdriver slot in the end. Then you can remove the lower bolts and slide the trans back on the long upper bolts to clear the clutch and just lift it out through the cab.
These things are pretty simple. Sounds like you have a good start.
