Not sure if this is true for all years, maybe some others can expand onthers can expand on this. There should also be numbers stamped on the pad just aft of the distributor. These should tell you the engine assembly plant (F for Flint and T for Tonawonda), the engine assembly month and day, and the use.
IE: my '57 car engine is T1026FC
T= Tonawonda
10 = Oct
26 = 26th
FC = 4 barrel w/powerglide
Since the block casting date was 56, I know this engine was assembled 26 Oct 1956.
