My son, David, and I are rebuilding this 1966 C10 stepside for him to drive in two years when he turns 16 and gets his license. We bought it a year ago for $300 off Craigs List and towed it home on a trailer. The guy we bought it from had bought it two years earlier as project but never did anything to it, and it had been sitting for probably another 10 years before that so its pretty rough. It has a four speed with the granny gear and a 250 inline 6 (probably actually an early 70's engine form the casting numbers). I fugured we would worry about getting safe and on the road first, do the mechanical work and make it pretty later on. So far we have pulled the engine, had it machined (now at .060 over and had to shave the deck a little), put on a new head, and reassembled it. I want to clean/paint the engine bay before we put it in back in, but I live in the Great Northwest and it has been way to cold and rainy to paint, even in my carport, so we moved on temporarily to other tasks. This last week we rebuilt the front wheel hubs with new bearings, brakes and fresh turned drums. The back wheels are next, then its time to tear down the cab interior for patching the floor pans and general repair and prettying up. The engine still needs a distributor and fuel pump, plus a new carb or the old one rebuilt. The details are what gets you, a million little jobs in each task!
Anyway, future work will include replacing the bed, lots and lots of body work, new brake lines, new wiring.....The list goes on and I'm sure all of you are well aware of what I mean! Possibly I would like to put on headers and one of those 4 bbl intake manifolds from 6=8, but thats a lot of extra dough...For now I'll be happy when we can take her down the road under her own power!
