Folks - I have read at least 50 posts on the subject of flywheel tooth count on 216/235 swaps, the 6V flywheel has 139 teeth and the 12V Flywheel has 168. I have yet to find a post on tooth count and pinion dimensions on the 12V starter that matches the 168 tooth flywheel. Now here is the real mystery to me, If you look in NAPA's on-line store and search starters for an early 60's chevy truck w 235 you will get a part number 44-0642 rebuilt 12V starter, and a part number 6003015 168 tooth ring gear to replace your worn flywheel gear if you need it. I have the new starter and the pinion is 9 teeth and it is the same dimension as the pinion on an old starter I have for the 216 139 tooth flywheel I'm changing out. Can someone tell me tooth count and O.D. of a 12V starter for a 168 tooth flywheel if you have one handly on the bench. Something is screwy here and I can't figure it out and would appreciate any help I can get on this. Regards,
