1954 Chevy Half Ton.....
My passenger front brake is locking up again. I thought cleaning the brake shoes and hub did the trick, it didn't.
I've been looking at the brake wheel cylinders on both front brakes. With the hub off and looking at the action when the brake peddel is applied *looks* ok.
Taking the shoes off and pushing the piston of the wheel brake cylinder on the locking brake side (passenger) with my fingers the whole unit moves back and forth real easily (maybe too easy?).
I'm not compressing the spring but moving all the innards from front to back/back to front through the cylinder. Doesn't *feel* hydraulic.
On the driver side (the side that doesn't lock) the piston and innards move back and forth not that easily about half as easy as the locking side. Kind of *feels* hydraulic (like I am pushing fluid).
All this is done with brake fluid in the system and the brakes have been bled. And there is No leaks.
I've swithed the shoes and hub around and that makes no difference, passenger side still lock up.
SOOoo My questions are should the innard of the wheel brake cylinder (piston/piston cup/spring/piston cup/piston) move Real easily back and forth in the cylinder?
Which cylinder should I think about rebuilding first?
Could the problem be the master cylinder?
Another thing after driving the vehicle and using the brakes carfully about 10 times the locking up *seems* to go away but comes back after everythings cooled down.
