Chances are it has an external regulator. If so pull the connector off the reg. & hook a hot wire to the blue/field wire at the connector. You should get a little blue spark when you touch it. Start it up & it should charge way over. If not the alt is bad. If it does then the problem is in the regulator. This is providing the wireing is good.
