The earlier distributors will fit 216-235 with some minor advance variations but the big kicker is with the gear that drives off the cam. Early 6's had a forged cam and ran a forged dist. drive gear. The 54 and later 235's had a cast cam and required a cast gear on the distributor. My 56 engine in a 54 AD was run with a 216 (forged gear) distributor and there was evidence of excessive wear and a distinct growl. The correct dist.was installed and the growl persists.....looks like a cam change is going to be in the works. Hope you can avoid this problem. | | |
