OK...I just posted a "not so flashy" question regarding radiator brackets...BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR....
On the way out tonight I found my self with MAJOR driveline troubles.
I cannot get into gear. Seems like the clutch is not disengaging. It started with a funny-feeling clutch pedal...about 3/4 of the way down I felt a little bump like something let go. Then the pedal felt sort of springy--not smooth all the way down like it normally does. It went into Reverse with a minor grind. Backed out, and it went into first with the same minor grind. (I would have stopped there but I was headed to my first T'ai Chi class, and didn't want to miss it.)
Well, I missed it. About 3 gear shifts and a half mile later, I couldn't get into Second. From a standstill, trying for First and Reverse I get a fast grind with the clutch pedal down. I could not go into second, but I could go into 3rd. The linkage is all in place. The adjusting screws for pedal freeplay are tight. Travel of linkage seems normal. The fork seems MAYBE (??) a bit loose, but I'm not sure.
Seems like a clutch problem, but I replaced the clutch 4 years ago, along with throwout bearing. Also, last week while replacing rear main seal what we saw of the clutch looked fantastic. Maybe the spring (fingers) broke?
Tomorrow (Wednesday ) I will be under the truck bright and early on a chilly spring day. But if anyone could chime in with some suggestions before then, it would be very appreciated.
My road trip down to Athens for Friday, sadly, will not happen in the '65 Chevy.
