What is the difference between external and remote?
All 1958-65 235s that had an accessory/optional oil filter had an external, remote, by-pass (non-full-flow) canister oil filter (by AC, Fram, or others). The engine could have been later adapted for a full-flow oil filter (external and/or remote)
This is not a silly question. It is possible, however, that a majority of light trucks sold between 58-62 (with 6-cylinder engines) did not have an oil filter installed when purchased.
