The babbit pounding 235's looked pretty much identical to the 216's from the outside. I don't know anything about the water pumps on a 235, so I can't help you there -- my apologies.
That serial number you gave us looks more like a casting number (which I can't find). Is it off of that pad just aft of the distributor, or is it cast into the side of the block? It is possible that the serial number is different for Canada. I'm not sure what -- if anything -- is different.
You could also follow the instructions on the
Tech Tip to see if maybe the tell-tale signs are there.
