I guess I did not make myself clear. I was only suggesting to put 12 volts to the starter. This can be accomplished by removing the cable from the starter to isolate the starter from everything else. My first choice would to be starting it with a 6 volt starter and a 6 volt starter should crank a 302. However, if the starter will not crank well with 6 volts, a 12 volt battery might. 8 volt batteries were usually installed when 6 volt batteries cranked too slow. I think Tam is trying to get the engine to running before he tackles any of the other stuff. Harvester, thanks for pointing out that I didn't make myself clear.
