This thread got me worrying about using a 50+ year old damper on my rebuilt 235. Since Damper Dudes is located about 1/2 way on my 20 mile drive to work I stopped in the other day. I have been trying to decide whether to use the 216 or 235 balancer so I brought both with me. The business is mainly a race engine shop with a small sign that also says Damper Dudes.

Not knowing the personal I asked the guy in the shop if he was one of the Dudes. I am holding the 2 balancers in my hand at this point. His response "216 Chevy and 235 Chevy- do you think I'm one of the Dudes?". I was convinced by that he knew what he was doing and had the 216 damper rebuilt. It looks new and the rubber has some give, unlike the rock hard old rubber. Was this necessary? Not sure I will ever know but I am not cutting corners anywhere else on the truck so it is worth it to me.
