Don't worry about anything else. This is a fuel problem, not a spark or temperature problem, from your description. With all the threads on clogs from old tanks, I would look into the fuel supply part of the system. Start at the tank and work your way toward the carb. Maybe you get enough flow to idle but not enough flow for driving??
