So I was reading through my 1955 shop manual for my 261 buildup for my 1949 burb and reading up on the runout check. Does anybody do this? I am installing a saginaw 4 speed in a 261 using a 48-53 bellhousing and a 10 inch clutch and the matching 261 flywheel. I just had the flywheel turned and the clutch and pressure plate are brand new.

I just can't believe how you are supposed to get these things within .008? Really? This is 1955 technology! How many of you guys really check this, or do you just slap the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate back in?

How critical is this and how critical is it to shim the flywheel?
