i just got the news, total cost, from the machine shop on my 235. it was a '61 block, and while in overall good condition, the machine work/cleaning/magf/hardened seats/valves/cam and crank bearings/balancing of crank and rods/gaskets - $1600
a crate eng would be cheaper, but the shop/a friend, guarantees that this rebuild will outlast any crate. the engine had already been rebuilt by a 'crate' type co/had limited mileage, but the crank bearings/clearance was questionable as evidenced by their poor condition/lack of oil flow?
