It appears to me that the shaft has already been shortened and the earlier pulley installed. He just needs the bigger pulley to make it work.
Danny, if you can't easily find a pulley I'd recommend the adapter plate and old style water pump rather than buying an after market pulley from a specialty supplier. I'm sure it would be nearly as expensive as the adapter.
