The main problem I see with T5 transmissions is the front bearing and retainer setup. For some reason the bearing race is not a press fit in the retainer so it tends to rotate. The problem with this rotation is there is a shim in front of the race that sets the preload on the front and rear bearings that becomes worn. This allows every thing to jump around and leads to problems.

On every T5 I put in I pull the race out and flip the shim over so the race is hitting on a unused part of the shim, then I locktite the race in.
