It's been a long time, but I believe to mark the holes for mine, I simply twisted in a couple of screws or bolts into the nutserts in the door, leaving them long enough to touch the panel. Then I smeared paint or grease on the head of each bolt and attached the panel. After pulling the panel back off the correct location was imprinted on the back.
