Is there a place on the frame or anywhere else to find the vin #? If California was an engine number state your VIN will be the engine number. If California wasn't an engine number state or the original engine has been replaced the state will have a method of resolving your problem. This gets discussed a LOT. Doing a search using VIN in the search box will get you hours of reading.
