I don't think you need to remove the radiator. When using the support rods to pull the front clip into place, the mount underneath the rad saddle may separate if loosened up. That is how you tell what shims are needed. There is a measurement spec for the support rods in the manual and they are different lef and right.
It helps to have the hood in place to align things.
